Zaraki KenpachiPresident Biden will announce Tuesday that he is moving up the deadline for states to open up COVID-19 vaccinations to all adult Americans by about two weeks, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.
Less than a month after directing states to expand eligibility to all adults by May 1, Biden is expected to change that deadline to April 19.
“That doesn’t mean they will get it that day, that means they can join the line that day if they have not already done that beforehand,” Psaki said.
Most states have either made vaccines available to all residents 16 and older or announced plans to do so by mid-April. The White House did not say how it intends to get the handful of remaining states to move up their timelines.

Officials announced at the end of March that nearly half of states were set to expand eligibility to all adults by April 15, and that 46 states and Washington, D.C., would do so by May 1. In the weeks since, the unaccounted for states — New York, Wyoming, South Carolina and Arkansas — have all opened vaccines to the general public.
Biden is also expected to announce that the U.S. administered 150 million doses in his first 75 days in office, a pace that puts him on track to surpassing his previously stated goal of reaching 200 million doses in his first 100 days.

According to NPR’s vaccine tracker, 18.8% of the U.S. population is fully vaccinated, and 32.4% has had at least one dose. The states with the highest percentage of their populations vaccinated include New Mexico, South Dakota, Alaska, Rhode Island and Maine.
Pop superstar and makeup mogul Rihanna showed her support for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community by going undercover to attend a “Stop Asian Hate” rally Sunday in New York City.
The 33-year-old singer avoided drawing attention to herself by covering her face in a black face mask, a baseball hat, and large, dark sunglasses. She attended the rally with her assistant Tina Truong, who documented the day’s festivities on her Instagram page.
“This is what solidarity looks like! #stopaapihate #stopasianhate #callitahatecrime,” Troung captioned a series of photos and videos, including an image of Rihanna holding up a “Stop Asian Hate” sign and a video of the singer dancing in the street.
Troung also shared a video of one attendee at the rally asking Rihanna for her Instagram handle, apparently unaware that he was talking to the “Umbrella” singer.
“When Rih gives you her IG handle but you think she trolling,” Truong captioned the video. As the stunned man asks, “That’s you?”, Rihanna starts laughing.
Troung attended the rally with a sign that read “Bad day? #Call it a hate crime,” in reference to a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman saying that suspected gunman Robert Aaron Long “had a bad day” when he allegedly opened fire last month at three Atlanta-area spas, killing eight people and wounding a man. Six of the people killed were women of Asian descent.

The shootings — followed by the recent attacks against Asian people in cities including Tacoma, Washington, and New York City — sparked conversations nationwide about hate crimes targeting Asian Americans.
Rallies in support of the community have been held across the country including in Atlanta, Pittsburgh, San Antonio, New York City, Chicago, and San Francisco.
Biden plans to make remarks on vaccinations from the White House on Tuesday afternoon after visiting a vaccination center in Alexandria, Va.
